We can give our warm recommendations to anyone considering going to Kyrgyzstan in general, and with Ecotour in particular! We spent two weeks in some of Ecotour's yurt camps, and it was a highly memorable experience. Ecotour was very flexible and had arranged a programme that suited our wishes perfectly.

Date : 25/6- 7/7 and 29/8 - 11/9 2016

Discover Kyrgyzstan, enjoy mountains, nature and the abundance of the flora . In 2 weeks you make a tour through the east part of the country, experience life of the nomadic people, stay in yurts,- the felt nomadic tents- B&B and with local families. You can discover the Tian Shan mountains on horseback or on foot.

This tour is designed for those who wish to have more control over what they see and do, and for those who may be slightly more budget conscious. In locations where there are no alternatives, lunch and supper has been included. The services of a guide/ interpreter have only been included when you are travelling outside Bishkek and when taking part in the optional activities. All suggested optional tours are not included in the price. For logistic reasons we like to know in advance if you will take part in the optional programs.

Programme

Day 1 Departure from your home airport.

Day 2 Arrival at Manas airport and transfer to a comfortable hotel close to the centre of Bishkek. After some sleep and breakfast, time to get a map of Bishkek and go around the city on your own. Guide, lunch and supper not included. Stay in hotel.

Day 3 Day in Bishkek. Suggestion - optional day trip to Ala-Archa National Park, 40km south of Bishkek. Guide, lunch and supper not included. Stay in hotel.

Day 4 By minibus from Bishkek to Konorchok Canyon (125km) located in the Boom Gorge. Hiking in the canyons which were formed about one and a half to two million years ago and since much eroded by wind and water forming gigantic stone pillars, some of which are 400-500 meters high. From there we continue to Tamchy along the northern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake (1,600m. altitude). Stay in a B&B. Guide and dinner included. We will stop at a café, but lunch not included. After dinner (included) prepared for you by your hostess you can go for a hike or swim to the beach

Day 5 From Tamchy to Cholpon-Ata. Suggestion – optional visits to the archeological open air museum of petroglyphs. Then onto Karakol at the east end of the lake where you can see the Russian Orthodox Church and the Dungan Mosque. Guide included. Entry fees and meals not included. Stay in B&B.

Day 7 Day in Karakol. Suggestion - optional day trip to Jeti-Oguz, a lush valley with some striking red sandstone rock formations (including the “Seven Bulls” from which the valley takes it name). Lunch and supper not included. Stay in B&B.

Day 8 Along the southern shore of the lake to Skaska, Russian for "fairy tale", Canyon where the coloured rocks are said to resemble fairy-like shapes. In the late afternoon drive to Sonun yurt camp (1,600m). Stop for lunch in café (not included) dinner included. Stay in yurts.

Day 9 Day in Sonun. You can hike in the area with badlands and/or go to swim in the lake. Guide and all meals included. Stay in yurts.

Day 10 Drive from Sonun to Kochkor, a village famous for felt-making. Suggestion – optional visit to meet a man who hunts with eagles and to see his bird(s) of prey. Guide included lunch and supper not included. Stay in B&B.

Day 11 Day in Kochkor. Suggestion – optional visit to see felt making. Lunch and supper not included. Stay in B&B.

Day 12 From Kochkor back to Bishkek. On the way visit to the Burana Tower, the remnants of an old Silk Road City from X-XII centuries. Lunch and supper not included. Stay in hotel.

Day 13 Day without programme in Bishkek. Guide, lunch and supper not included. Stay in hotel.

Day 14 Transfer to Manas Airport and departure.
