We can give our warm recommendations to anyone considering going to Kyrgyzstan in general, and with Ecotour in particular! We spent two weeks in some of Ecotour's yurt camps, and it was a highly memorable experience. Ecotour was very flexible and had arranged a programme that suited our wishes perfectly.

Meet the culture and every day's life of the nomads in Kyrgyzstan. You will sleep in yurts, the felt houses of the nomadic herdsmen. You will attend the making of felt objects for everyday use and you get the opportunity to cook a Kyrgyz meal. You might listen to the songs of children and the music of their traditional music instruments. You can also see how nomads prepare kymys, the national drink made of mare milk. And if you are lucky, you will witness horse games.

Pay a visit to the Burana tower and to the petroglyphs: stone carvings of the Scythe period near Cholpon-Ata. In the capital Bishkek you can experience the oriental way of shopping at the Osh bazaar.

In between activities there is still plenty of time to enjoy the magnificent scenery of the Tian-Shan mountains.

Several hikes are included in this program. Most of the transportation takes place by minibus. On 4 occasions part of the distance can be done on foot. If, when and how long these hikes will be, is a matter of consulting together. You get the opportunity to ride or to learn how to ride on horseback. You can visit the herdsmen who come with their families to the alpine summer pastures to guard the cattle.

In Bishkek, your accommodation is in a small nice hotel, on the countryside you pass the night in yurt camps ran by a local family. Sometimes you sleep in a guesthouse or have a home stay in a village. During the whole journey you are accompanied by an English speaking interpreter.

This journey suits people who are interested in the nomadic way of life and the culture of the Kyrgyz people. For the hikes you need a good physical condition. About 3-5 hours walking a day in mountainous terrain should be in your range of possibilities. We expect you to be a little adventurous, and not necessarily to demand luxury.

The price includes everything from arrival at the airport till departure, except the flight, visa and alcoholic beverages. A visa can be obtained easily upon arrival at the airport in Bishkek. The price of the flight depends on the company you are flying with and the date of booking.
