Combination tour -

cycling on own or hired bicycle and trekking 

Date: 30/05 - 13/06 and 17/07 – 31/07 2018. Price: 1350 euro if 4 or more participants

If you are active and adventurous, we can offer you this unforgettable trip. Imagine yourself cycling in the mountains, 3 days hiking in Tong and maybe some horse riding in a yurt camp at 2450m above sea level. During your stay you learn about Kyrgyz traditions and legends and meet many local people. You need to be in good physical condition and have the expertise that is required for the activities you want to include. You can either bring your own bicycle or rent a bicycle in Bishkek.

You should bring a sleeping bag, isolating (air) mattress, warm clothes and raincoat. Our interpreter and local guides will accompany you and are ready to help you if it is needed. Encounter the life and the culture of the nomads of Kyrgyzstan.

In Bishkek you will spend the night in hotel Umai. During the remaining part of the tour you will sleep in B&B, yurts, nomadic tents made of felt. During trekking you will sleep in a small tent.

See how herdsmen make 'Kymyz', the national drink made of mare milk. Listen to the children singing their songs and playing their instruments.


Day 1 Departure from your local airport.

Day 2 Arrival at Manas Airport and transfer to your hotel. After lunch preparation of bicycles followed by some sightseeing. You can visit the Old Square from where you can walk through the oldest park in Bishkek, Oak Park, to the main square Ala-Too. Passing by the National Opera and Ballet Theatre you will get to Victory Square, built for the 40th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War (Second World War). Accommodation in hotel.

Day 3 By car until after the tunnel at the Tor Ashuu Pass - 125km (tunnel at 2564 m and 2.5km long). Then cycling down to the village of Kyzyl-Oi (1,800 m). 16km of asphalt until the junction with the road to Osh, and then 45km of dirt road to the village, partly along the river Kokomeren. Kyzyl-Oi is a village surrounded by red coloured mountains. The clay from mountains has been used as material for house building since the beginning of 20th century. Stay with local family.

Day 4 After lunch cycling through the gorge along the Kokomeren River to Chaek, the district town of this area, 35 km of dirt road. Stay in B&B.

Day 5
Cycling to Kyzart.The road is very spectacular. You can admire wonderful mountain landscapes and explore local flora and fauna (47km). Then on by car to Kochkor – if wanted longer distance can be cycled. Stay in B&B.

Day 6 Cycling past the Orto-Tokoy water reserve to Lake Issyk-Kul and then along the west side of the lake to Balykchy. Here your cycling will end. 70km over flat asphalt road. Stay with a local family.

Day 7 By car from Balykchy to the yurt camp Sonun on the south side of Lake Issyk-Kul. This yurt camp is located in a semi-desert area not far from the shore. In the afternoon swimming and/or hiking in the badlands. Stay in yurt.

Day 8 By car to the Tosor Gorge, starting place of your 3 day hike. Here you will meet the guide, horseman and horses for the trek. You will sleep in tents, luggage is transported on horseback. You have to bring your own sleeping bag and isomat. Hike to Kyrchyn. Stay in tent.

Days 9-10 Hiking from Kyrchyn to Bel-Tam, and next day to the yurt camp Temir-Kanat at 2,450m. Over 2 passes around 3,000m 5-6 hours hiking each day. Temir-Kanat yurt camp is located at a plateau above the village of the same name. From here you have a beautiful view of the lake and the snow-topped mountains that are the border with Kazakhstan on the other side of the lake. Stay in yurt.

Day 11 Day in the yurt camp, hiking or horse riding in the surrounding mountains and a closer view of glaciers. Visit the herdsmen to try kymyz, our national drink made from fermented from mare’s milk, and get acquainted with their lifestyle. Stay in yurt.

Day 12 Driving west the same valley you reach the yurt camp at Tuura-Suu at 2,200m. Go hiking, horse riding, visit the village and maybe hear the children from the nearby village sing and play their instruments. Stay in yurt.

Day 13 From Tuura-Suu to the Boom gorge. Hike of maximum 5 hours in the Konorchok canyons In the canyons you will see red sandstone columns that go on for miles; it seems never-ending! One particularly fascinating feature in the canyons is a 2 ½-3 million year old dormant volcano. Back to Bishkek, stay in hotel.

Day 14 Day without programme, lunch not included.

Day 15 Departure

The price includes everything from arrival at the airport till departure, except the flight, visa (if needed) and alcoholic beverages.

If you book for 4 persons or more, we offer you 5% discount.
