About tour

On this three week tour you will complete two separate mountain treks. The first trek of 3 days will be in Tong on the south side of Lake Issyk-Kul . You will hike for 5-6 hours each day and your luggage will be transported on horseback. The second trek of 5 days is a hard one. On this trek it is not possible for horses to carry the luggage. Porters will carry the tents and cooking utensils but you will have to carry your own luggage. On this tour you will climb to almost 4.000 m and thus it is only suitable for people with experience of hiking in high mountains.

During both treks you will sleep in small tents. You need to bring your own warm sleeping bag and iso-mattress. Tents and other camping equipment will be provided. The programme starts with the easier trek. Over 3 days you hike from a yurt camp at 2.450 m and over 2 passes of about 3.000 m to the Tosor Canyon at 1.700 m. Here the car will wait for you to bring you to a yurt camp near the shore of the lake. Next day is a rest day to swim or visit Manjyly-Ata, a traditional sacred place of the Kyrgyz. Then it is on to Karakol, to start the 5 day trek to Altyn-Arashan and Altyn-Kul lake. From here along the north side of the lake you return to Bishkek.

Mountain passes, bad tracks, off-road, and firm climbs over 3000 m characterize this route.
Not all slopes are steep, but some are very long and on dirt roads.
But it is worth the effort.
